Why do bad things happen to good people? If God is good, why does He allow evil to exist? How can I have faith in the midst of my crazy life? After God answers his similar questions, the prophet Habakkuk"s first response is praise. Just as Habakkuk concluded that he could, indeed, trust God despite his circumstances YOU can conclude the same thing. We can praise God for what He has done in the past, what He promises to do in the future, and what He is doing right now in your life. When faith gets dirty, PRAISE!

In his second complaint, Habakkuk questions God, asking: "Where's the consistency, God?" In His response, God reveals to Habakkuk that He is, by His very nature, the definition of consistency. What's more, God draws a strong contrast between the life that the righteous will live by their faith in God, versus the death that the unrighteous will experience by their faith in themselves.

We often think of faith as a wonderful and blessed thing-which it is... But in reality faith was made to get dirty! If our faith doesn't stand the test of time during the most difficult trials we face, it is really no faith at all. In the opening sermon to our series through Habakkuk, we see the prophet crying out to God, “Why don't you answer my prayers!?” God's powerful response informs our faith, and gives us insight into the sovereignty of God.

Going it alone as a Christian is not only foolhardy, but unbiblical! As we begin practicing relationships built on grace, however, the residue of the flesh will fight against these roles with two secret weapons: conceit and comparison-itis.
