In James 2, James addresses the social and economic divisions that sometimes crop up in God's Holy Church. James will clear tell us that such divisions have NO BUSINESS there! The royal law, to "love one another as yourself," is James' answer to all sorts of man-made barriers that can distract from God's glory. Seven take-aways will challenge us all to carefully examine our motives, speech and actions in this important area... Because God's grace really does work for the believer's life!

I've believed in Jesus alone to save me from my sin... NOW WHAT!? How do I know God's will for my life? What is my motivation for living? What does God want from me? In the busy day-to-day life of a disciple, how do I make sure I am listening to the voice of God, and putting what He says into practice. James will point out several pitfalls to good listening AND obeying for the growing Christian, and several strategies for how to improve.

James issues a warning to believers: we have a propensity to be tempted to sin in the midst of trials. God's design is that we persevere in trials to produce spiritual growth, rather than allow temptation to stunt that growth.

We begin a new sermon series through the book of James this week! Using an incredibly clever play on our name "The GraceWorks," we begin exploring how GRACE in the believer's life really does WORK! The first installment brings us to familiar territory, as we tackle the believer's response to trials. Using some of the knowledge we've gained from our recent study of Habakkuk, combined with James' unique perspective, we learn that God's desire is clear: "Don't just survive, THRIVE" in the midst of trials. God's three strategies to get there are Persevere in Joy, Persevere in Prayer, and Persevere in Praise.

Peter outlines a strategy for living this life in light of the life to come. He exhorts believers to be devoted to the Word, to serve and minister in the church, and to glorify God through their lives. He reminds us that our actions and habits in this life will have implications that will ring into eternity.
