Jesus continues to face controversy and challenges, this time from the Saduccees, religious fundamentalists who only adhered to the Torah. They denied the reality of resurrection. Jesus takes on the challenge, proving them wrong by using Moses' own writings. Jesus' own resurrection was to happen in less than a week. As a result of his resurrection, we can look forward to the hope of resurrection to eternal >life.

Coming off of the clearing of the temple, and the challenge of Jesus' authority in the beginning of the chapter, we see Jesus clarify things with a brutal parable. The story Jesus tells chronicles the history of God the Father's attempt to call his people (Israel) back to himself through the prophets, and eventually by sending his own Son. Jesus is then asked, in an attempt to trap him, about the role of governmental authority in the life of God's children. Jesus foils every controversy brought to him with the wisdom that could only be directly from God. We will see how Jesus' authority should affect our lives today through this powerful passage.

When Jesus gets into town, he heads straight to the temple. As the Son of God, he has authority over heaven and earth—and boy does he use it! He drives out the coin changers with a fervor, causing quite the stir with the leaders in Jerusalem. We see them challenge his authority, and lose. The reality is that Jesus has authority over you, as well. Are you living like it, or trying to pretend you have authority of your own?

The Lord Has 'Need' of It - Video

Sunday Nov 27, 2011
Jesus and disciples arrive at Jerusalem. In the course of Luke's account of the Triumphal Entry, it is revealed that the Lord "chooses" to need our possessions and our praise. It is a privilege to give them back to Him. As Jesus sees Jerusalem, He recognizes the fate that will befall the city (and unbelievers), leading Him to weep, pleading that they would recognize Him as Messiah.
