Sunday Jul 15, 2012
Paul addresses the false teaching that was going on in the church of Colossae head-on! To anyone who would add a "short-cut", humanistic traditions, an elite spiritual group or attempt to blend in false religions to Full-Strength Christ Paul is clear: this does not add anything, but rather takes away from the person, work and power of Jesus Christ.

Sunday Jul 08, 2012
In writing to the Colossian church, Paul assures them of his mission and his purity of motive. The assurance he gives is simple: you are seeking to be more like your hero [Jesus] just as I [Paul] seek to be like my hero [Jesus]. You can trust that as I speak, I speak with that intent—to help you attain your goal of Christlikeness. Paul says, "If it's Jesus' job, it' my job!" You and I should say the same thing, so in this sermon we look at this passage as a prescription for how to attain this lofty goal.

Paul prays for the Colossians, because their lives have been changed by the Gospel. His prayer is specific--that they would have an understanding of God's will, which would change the way that they live their lives. Knowing the big picture of God's redemption plan should also cause us to live our lives differently.

In the opening remarks of the letter to the church in Colossae, Paul outlines the power of the undiluted Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is establishing the power of the full-strength Gospel, so that he'll be able to combat heresy later in the book. As believers, we can know that the Gospel is powerful to change our lives both spiritually and practically, just as it changes lives all over the world.
