David's sins of adultery and murder come back to haunt him, as Amnon rapes his half-sister, Tamar. Absalom "defends her honor" in due course by murdering Amnon. Our sin will find us out, it will scar our families, and it will spiral far beyond our control. It's about time we took sin seriously.

David falls into temptation (Bathsheba) and fails his God in a BIG way. David sees something that is not his and he abuses his position to get it. Not appearing to care who he hurts along the way. His sin with Bathsheba was only the beginning of this epic sized fail, he then lies, gets Uriah drunk, and then murders him and other Israeli soldiers so that his adultery with Bathsheba won't be found out. God uses His prophet Nathan to convict David of his sin after living in it for 7 plus months. David confesses, repents, loses his son and sees Gods judgement and also his Grace. Sin's small print is promised destruction... approach sin with caution, or better yet, RUN the opposite way...

In our study of Second Samuel, we reach the Davidic covenant. In this pivotal covenant between God and David, we see the nature of our gracious God. The Davidic covenant both build on previous comments and points forward to the New Covenant. In David's response to the Davidic covenant we see what a proper response to God's grace really is.

Happy Mothers Day!!! This week we will see David finally become King over all of Israel, we see that he doesn't change who he has consistently been over the past 13 or so years while he has been waiting for this anointed day. He continues to go to the Lord to ask the whats and hows of the kingdom and basis his decisions on the Lord's leading. Each one of us wether single, married or married with kids needs to determine how we will go about setting up our families for success in Christ and we can learn from David in these chapters some great examples of patterns we can adopt that will steer us in the right direction. Family planning God's way… that sounds like good advice I want to follow…
